Impact Story: Lighting Her Way to a Brighter Future
During the globally recognized 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence in 2024 — November 24 – December 10. HerLead Network joined forces with Women SafeHouse Nigeria to launch the impactful campaign, LightHerWay. This partnership was a beacon of hope for survivors of domestic violence in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria, empowering them to rebuild their lives with dignity and resilience.
Through LightHerWay, HerLead Network supported five courageous women, each with unique stories of survival and determination. These beneficiaries had been displaced or left vulnerable due to domestic violence, but with the collaboration between HerLead Network and Women SafeHouse Nigeria, they received the critical interventions they needed to start anew.
Here’s how your generous donations were spent:
T.O.
A survivor provided shelter by Women SafeHouse, T.O. had been sleeping on the bare floor due to lack of resources. Thanks to the partnership, she now has a mattress and the comfort to begin healing and rebuilding her life.
A.O.
A skilled fashion designer and survivor, A.O. dreamt of using her craft to support her family. With the gift of a sewing machine, she is now launching her own business, offering a path of financial independence for herself and her mother, who also survived domestic violence.
N.A.
Another resilient survivor, N.A. was supported with rent assistance but lacked basic necessities. The campaign ensured she could sleep with dignity by providing a mattress for her new home.
L.E.
Determined to grow her small business selling baby clothes, L.E. received additional support, enabling her to sustain her livelihood and regain financial stability.
E.J.E.
As a mother of three, E.J.E. struggled to provide for her family. With financial support from the campaign, she expanded her crayfish business, ensuring her children’s needs were met.
The LightHerWaycampaign illuminated not just homes but lives, proving that together, we can create a world free from violence and full of opportunities for all women. By addressing immediate needs and fostering long-term sustainability, this partnership has empowered survivors to reclaim their independence and thrive.
