Our Story
HerLead was founded on a simple belief: when women are empowered to lead, entire communities thrive.
Mentorship – Resources – Education
Founded in 2024, we are a non-profit organisation dedicated to nurturing the leadership potential of women in underserved communities. Seeing the untapped potential in women from these backgrounds, we recognised the need for a charity focused on developing their leadership.
HerLead was born to provide mentorship, education, and resources—equipping these women to drive meaningful change in their communities. Our mission is to create opportunities for women to break through societal, economic, and political barriers, enabling them to become transformative leaders.
At HerLead Network, we are committed to fostering women’s leadership and empowerment, believing that by uplifting women, we can unlock the potential for entire communities to thrive. Our work closely aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 5 (SDG 5), which aims to achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls. Gender inequality remains a pervasive issue, particularly in underserved areas where women often face systemic discrimination, limited resources, and restricted opportunities for leadership.

Meet The Founder
Mercy Uhuka
Leading the Way with HerLead NetworK
Mercy Uhuka, founder of the HerLead Network, is a passionate advocate for women’s empowerment and a dedicated leader with a strong background in social work. A wife and mother of two, Mercy balances her commitment to family with a deep dedication to lifting women in her community and beyond.
Her journey began in Nigeria, where she served as a Relationship Manager with the Presidential Amnesty Program, supporting individuals impacted by conflict. Her dedication deepened through extensive volunteer work in Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps, where she supported women and girls, displaced from terrorist attacks facing some of the most challenging circumstances, from limited resources to social isolation.
Mercy’s commitment to women’s leadership was further strengthened by her certification from the Oxford Women’s Leadership Program at the University of Oxford. This experience equipped her with advanced strategies to drive meaningful change and fueled her vision for HerLead Network.
Mercy founded HerLead Network in 2024, with the aim of equipping women with the skills, mentorship, and community they need to lead confidently and make a lasting impact. Through workshops, mentorship, and a robust support network, Mercy and HerLead Network are building a future where women uplift each other and lead boldly.
FOUNDER’S SPEECH
Hi, I’m Mercy Uhuka and I’m the founder of HerLead. I started this organisation with one simple belief, that every woman, no matter where she comes from, deserves the opportunity to lead, inspire, and make a difference in her community.
Growing up, I witnessed firsthand how many talented, strong women in underserved areas didn’t have the support or resources to reach their full potential. Whether it was limited access to education, cultural barriers, or financial struggles, too many doors were closed to women who could be amazing leaders. And that just didn’t sit right with me – it still doesn’t sit well with me.
That’s why I created HerLead Network. We are here to break down those barriers. We provide women with leadership training, mentorship, and access to networks that help them grow into the leaders they’re meant to be—whether in business, government, or their communities.
To me, leadership isn’t just about being in charge. It’s about using your voice, taking action, and lifting others along the way. And I believe that when women lead, entire communities thrive. I have seen firsthand that when a woman is at her full potential, she is unstoppable, untamable and unbreakable. She can achieve!
